The story of an exceptional place
Built in the mid-19th century, the house once belonged to renowned Brazilian actress Tônia Carrero. It also served for many years as the Maison des Architectes, a residence for architecture students. This early vocation—deeply connected to art and creation—still resonates in every corner.
In 2013, the villa captivated a French family, Pierre, Marie and their son Joachim, long-time admirers of Rio. They envisioned a project in their own image: a hotel at the crossroads of heritage, design and art de vivre. After five years of meticulous restoration, the house was reborn as a space that is both contemporary and rich in history, where tropical light interacts beautifully with the timeless lines of modernist design.
The decoration, imagined in every detail by Pierre, passionate about architecture and furniture, together with his son Joachim, plays a central role in the identity of the house.
Every object tells a story: iconic pieces from the 1960s, vintage finds lovingly restored, works of art scattered throughout the spaces… Together, they shape an atmosphere that is elegant, vibrant and profoundly personal — a home infused with the spirit of travel and time rediscovered.
A Franco-Brazilian family adventure
Since 2020, Joachim and Laís have been at the helm of Villa Paranaguá.
He, French, from the construction world, dreamed of entrepreneurship and of building a life in Rio.
She, Brazilian, with degrees in history, administration and business, shared the same desire for independence and creation. Together, they chose to embark on a shared entrepreneurial journey, driven by excellence, hospitality and passion.
Under their guidance, Villa Paranaguá has become a distinguished address where high standards blend seamlessly with the warm, relaxed spirit of Rio. Joachim ensures the quality and coherence of every architectural detail, while Laís brings warmth and authenticity to the guest experience.
